“In December, some of the brilliant minds at PĒLL reached out to ask if I would be interested in trialling some of their full-spectrum CBD oils (they also let me try their new CBG oil – you can read about my experience with that here). I have always held an interest in the therapeutic capabilities of cannabinoids, and this was the perfect opportunity for me to find out first-hand how they could help me!
I suffer from a combination of ADHD, anxiety, and insomnia. These issues are all challenging in their own right, but often the three intermingle, compounding one another and making things a lot tougher than they need to be. Having read the wealth of research suggesting that CBD can help with such problems, I was excited to give the oils a try for a fortnight and document my experiences.
The most immediate change I noticed upon taking CBD was the improvement in sleep quality. For two weeks, I took two drops of PĒLL’s strong 30% full-spectrum oil under the tongue as part of my nightly bedtime routine. I felt a difference even during the first night – I slept deeper and for longer, and felt more rested the next day. As a notoriously light sleeper, I was equal parts surprised and elated by how quickly I could notice a positive change.
As time went on and my body became familiar with the routine, my sleep improved even further, becoming probably the best it has ever been in my adult life. Like Pavlov’s famous dog, I found myself conditioned by the routine – even the very sight of the CBD oil and the expectance of what came next made me feel relaxed and sleepy. By the end of the fortnight, I would drift off within minutes of my head hitting the pillow.
A Quieter and Happier Mind
Every morning, I would take two drops of PĒLL’s medium 30% full-spectrum oil under the tongue. Whilst the changes were not as instantaneous as the strong oil had been for my insomnia, the end results were just as effective. Within a few days, I found myself able to focus more, principally due to my usual background haze of overthinking and compulsion being dampened down significantly.
One element of ADHD that I believe is often overlooked is the intense guilt that can accompany it. In a world geared towards corporate productivity, it is easy to feel that your ADHD makes you less worthy than others – whether that be worthy of your salary, achievements, or praise for your work. I found that PĒLL’s CBD did a great job of cutting through this cloud of guilt and silenced some of those unwelcome voices often so prevalent inside my mind!
My mood in general, too, felt as if its base level had noticeably risen over the two-week period. I felt happier, more chilled out, and more like the version of myself I want to be. As previously mentioned, I was also taking PĒLL’s new CBG oil for the duration of this study. Similarly to CBD, studies have also suggested that CBG can help reduce anxiety and regulate mood. It’s therefore hard to tell how responsible each cannabinoid was for my mental health’s improvement. What I can say with total certainty, though, is that this particular CBD/CBG combo worked brilliantly for myself, and it’s something I’ve carried on with post-study.
Patience is a Virtue
I think my most important takeaway from this experience has been that, whilst CBD is an incredibly useful tool in relieving the symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, and insomnia, it is not a miracle instant fix. For CBD to deliver optimal benefits, you must commit to a regular routine and have the patience to wait (if only a few days, as with me!) for your body and the cannabinoids to start working in tandem.
As with anything you put into your body, individual tolerances for CBD may vary greatly. It’s imperative to find the perfect dosage to suit you and your needs. Start small, work your way up to your optimal dose, and above all else – be consistent!
